December 31, 2010 Visit To SW British Columbia Chapter

 SW BRITISH COLUMBIA CHAPTER

From Seattle, it's about a 2-3 hour drive north and up into the mountains, and lots more snow, to reach the Canadian border and head into the city of Vancouver, British Columbia.  The tall glass buildings reminded me of the Emerald City in the Wizard of Oz.

What began on Mickey's birthday in 1994 as the Pion-ears Chapter has grown into today's SW British Columbia Chapter.  There are 50 members who come to quarterly themed meetings at a different member's home each time - that way, everyone has the chance to look at all the Disney collections.  And I have to tell you that I got to see what has to be the largest Scrooge McDuck collection anywhere on the planet!

People were dressed in themed costumes.  There was a silent auction and a trivia contest.  And a sit down dinner!

In addition to the regular meetings, the members have outings for a new Disney movie, ice show, or play.  And they can't wait until Mary Poppins comes to town next year.

This chapter also provides local charitable donations, contributing to a Food Bank and Basics for Babies.

And on the way back to the USA, in a borrowed "Tinkerbell-mobile", I must have looked mighty suspicious.  I got pulled out of the vehicle, checked for radiation, and waited a half hour for the drug dog to sniff over all the Disney stuff.  No worries - it was part of the adventure.  And I have a chapter teeshirt to prove it!
