The Disneyana Fan Club had a very exciting 2011 and we are looking forward to another great year of activities in 2012.
We began in January with a pin and vinylmation trading event on the eve of our semi-annual All Disneyana Show & Sale at the Anaheim Crowne Plaza Resort just down the street from Disneyland.
The Show & Sale had near-record attendance. Mickey's of Glendale, the Walt Disney Imagineering gift shop, the Studio Store from the Walt Disney Studio in Burbank, and the Soda Fountain Shop from the El Capitan Theatre again brought castmember and exclusive merchandise for our members to purchase. And, of course, later in the day, we opened the doors to the public to have an opportunity to make purchases as well.
In April, the DFC hosted a special weekend event in the San Francisco area. Our group was provided a private tour and wine tasting at the Disney family's Silverado Vineyards in the Napa Valley. We toured the Walt Disney Family Museum at the Presidio and hosted a luncheon to present our Heritage Award to the Walt Disney Family Foundation. It was a once in a lifetime opportunity to meet the entire family, including Walt's daughter, Diane Disney Miller. And we surprised her husband and former Walt Disney Company CEO, Ron Miller, with our Disney Legend Award.
July brought another fantastic DisneyanaMania Convention and the induction of Eric Goldberg, Kevin Rafferty, and Susan Egan as Disney Legends.
In addition to the annual July brunch benefitting the Ryman Arts Foundation, we also hosted a special charitable event at Garner Holt Productions in San Bernardino, California, the creator of so many wonderful animatronic and special effects elements.
Our newsletter, the Disneyana Dispatch, is being hardmailed bi-monthly to all members and expanded full color versions of each issue are available to members in our members-only section of the website. And in the intervening months, each member is emailed an abbreviated edition of the newsletter.
Creation of the Disneyana Fan Club Foundation has been moving forward. It will afford an opportunity for members to obtain tax deductions for donations and attendance at charity functions, provide scholarship to future Disney artists, and enable estate planning opportunities for disneyana collectors.
To close out the year, in conjunction with our World Chapter's holiday event, we presented our Disney Legend Award to Tim Considine and David Stollery who portrayed Spin & Marty on the original Mickey Mouse Club.
Our non-profit, all-volunteer staffed organization will continue to provide disneyana enthusiasts across the country and around the world with unique opportunities to network, have fun, and meet the people behind the Disney magic in personal settings at affordable prices.
And we have many more activities already planned for the coming months, including this Spring's trip to Disneyland Paris on the occasion of its 20th anniversary. Be sure to regularly check the announcements on the home and events page and Facebook for updated information.
