1999 Don Iwerks

Don Iwerks, son of Disney Legend Ub Iwerks, had a distinguished Disney career of his own. He started in the machine shop in 1950. Soon, Walt asked Ub whether he thought it would be possible to create a full 360-degree movie. He and his father developed the first 360-degree camera, and Don was part of the crew that shot the first 360 film, America the Beautiful. Another hallmark of his career was working with his father to develop the process that allowed for the seamless combination of animated backgrounds with live action. In 1998, Don received the Gordon E. Sawyer Award, a special Oscar presented to individuals whose contributions have revolutionized the motion picture industry.
